EDOS Flexible Testing Framework (EDOS FTF)

The goal of this effort is to research and experiment solutions which ultimately allows to dramatically reduce the costs and delays of quality assurance in the process of building an industry grade custom GNU/Linux distribution or custom application comprising several It designed an integrated quality assurance framework based on code analysis and runtime tests, which operates at the system level.

Motivation

Quality assurance is currently implemented by Linux distribution developers either by asking an open community to test a distribution before it is officialy released (ex. Debian, Mandriva Linux) or by implementing extensive in house testing achieved by dedicated staff. This situation tends to increase both time to market and staff expenses, for a task which is far from exciting. Because the complexity of the quality assurance process increases exponentialy with the number of packages and the number of platforms, Linux distribution developers are currently faced with the following choice:

  • either reduce system quality
  • or reduce the number of packages
  • or accept long delays before final release of high quality system
