Scope of the workshop

Quality assurance of Linux distribution is a complex and time consuming process, involving both open communities and dedicated staff, with a clear lack of dedicated tools. The goal of EDOS workpackage 3 is to research and experiment solutions which will ultimately allow to dramaticaly reduce the costs and delays of quality assurance in the process of building an industry grade custom GNU/Linux distribution.

The WP3 proposes, as detailled in the WP3 Roadmap, to develop a testing specification format, a testing framework middleware and a quality assurance portal to provide to Linux distribution packagers and testers a unified view of the testing process.

Topics

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • State of the art of Linux test suites, automated testing, testing frameworks...
  • GUI automated testing
  • Use of virtual environments for testing
  • Architecture of the WP3 system
  • Current version of the system testing framework
  • Testing specification
  • QA portal
  • Links with the PMI

The presentation will include both presentations by participants, open discussions and 'hands-on' sessions.
