6: 1.1 Motivation

8: Quality assurance is currently implemented by Linux distribution developers either by asking an open community to test a distribution before it is officialy released (ex. Debian, Mandriva Linux) or by implementing extensive in house testing achieved by dedicated staff. This situation tends to increase both time to market and staff expenses, for a task which is far from exciting. Because the complexity of the quality assurance process increases exponentialy with the number of packages and the number of platforms, Linux distribution developers are currently faced with the following choice:

12: * or accept long delays before final release of high quality system
